Once we start working together, I like to sit down for a few minutes with both new and experienced buyers to discuss the transaction process, to determine what you may already know, what you may need to know and how to best identify and satisfy your goals. We’ll talk about negotiation strategies and local traditions, which tend to change from one market to another.
Here’s a tip: If you happen to be more than one person buying a home, spend 10 minutes writing down a list of your top 10 priorities, in order of importance. Do this exercise separately, and don’t discuss or reveal each other’s list until you are finished. When you compare your priorities side by side ask your selves, “Are we looking for the same house?”. You might be surprised how many people are not, and this exercise can really help to find some common ground in the process. Have fun!
